Port of Savannah hits record container volumes in September

The Port of Savannah achieved record container volumes in September, moving 504,015 twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEUs). This represents a 3.7 percent increase compared to September 2025. The performance brings the first quarter of the fiscal year to over 1.5 million TEUs, marking the second-best quarter in the company’s history.

Growth was driven by strong consumer spending and an extended peak season, which was pushed into September due to typhoon-related delays at Asian ports. Import loads led the growth, increasing by 5.5 percent. Ocean carriers utilized the port due to its operational fluidity and proximity to major retail distribution centers.

A $1.6 billion renovation project at Ocean Terminal is currently more than 60 percent complete. Once finished, the project is expected to increase the terminal’s capacity from 200,000 TEUs to 1.75 million TEUs.
