Port of Seville rail access delayed until 2029

The new freight train access to the Port of Seville has been delayed by at least 18 months due to the procurement and delivery of 4,500 concrete sleepers. While track assembly could be completed by mid-2028, required circulation tests and permits mean the branch is not expected to become operational until 2029.

The project, managed by Adif and funded by the European Regional Development Fund, has a tender base budget of approximately 521,418 euros for the sleepers and 1,340 elastic elastomer pads. Once functional, the 2,485-meter branch is expected to reduce freight travel times by more than two hours by eliminating the need for trains to perform reversal maneuvers at stations such as La Salud, Dos Hermanas, or Utrera.
