Port of Taranto: Casartigiani calls for broader industrial strategy

The Casartigiani association has called for a strategic discussion regarding the Port of Taranto, arguing that seabed dredging alone is insufficient to address the facility's challenges. While the association acknowledges that deepening the waters to 16.5 meters is a strategic investment that could accommodate larger container ships, they emphasize that competitiveness depends on a broader industrial and commercial strategy.

Representatives Stefano Castronuovo and Giacinto Fallone are seeking transparency regarding costs, services, and traffic volumes. They argue that the port must develop a clear project to attract new traffic and generate local economic and employment benefits. This follows recent shifts in the terminal's landscape, including the departure of CMA CGM and the previous arrival of Yilport in 2020.

Casartigiani suggests that development should focus on transshipment, high-value logistics, integrated services, and increased involvement from the local production system to ensure the port becomes a truly competitive hub in the Mediterranean.
