Port of Thessaloniki receives Maersk Finisterre green containership
The Port of Thessaloniki (ThPA S.A.) has successfully received the ‘Maersk Finisterre’, a new-generation methanol dual-fuel containership. This vessel marks a significant milestone for the port as the first of its kind to be serviced there, highlighting the facility's ability to handle advanced maritime technologies and support the global transition toward sustainable shipping.
Flying the Singapore flag, the Maersk Finisterre is a medium-sized vessel with a capacity of 5,915 TEU. It is designed for high operational efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint through its ability to use either conventional maritime fuels or green methanol. The ship measures 265 meters in length and 38 meters in width.
Key technical features include approximately 1,400 reefer plugs, which facilitate the transport of fresh and perishable goods. The arrival of this vessel establishes a direct connection between Thessaloniki and Latin America, reinforcing the port's competitive profile in international trade.
