Port of Tórshavn sees 12,000 cruise passengers in August

The Port of Tórshavn experienced a significant surge in maritime activity during August, hosting 17 cruise calls that brought approximately 12,000 passengers to the Faroe Islands. This period accounted for more than one-third of the 50 scheduled calls for the year.

Ship sizes varied significantly, ranging from the Hebridean Sky with 99 guests to the Norwegian Star with 2,267 passengers. The port authority noted a growing trend in luxury cruise arrivals, with six such vessels docking in August. These ships are characterized by higher service levels, fewer passengers, and a higher crew-to-guest ratio. To capitalize on this segment, the port is actively working to strengthen relationships with luxury operators through familiarization trips for excursion managers.

During the month, three ships made their inaugural calls to Tórshavn, and two traditional plaque exchange ceremonies were held involving port executives and ship captains.
