Port of Veracruz access bridge inaugurated to reduce transit times

The Mexican government has inaugurated the Access Bridge to the Port of Veracruz, a two-kilometer infrastructure project designed to alleviate congestion and improve connectivity between the Xalapa-Veracruz highway and the port area. Inaugurated on October 3, 2026, by President Claudia Sheinbaum, the project involved an investment of 861 million pesos.

The new distributor consists of eight lanes in total, including four elevated lanes and four lateral lanes. According to the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), the infrastructure is expected to reduce travel times by up to 50 minutes for the more than 34,000 vehicles that use the intersection daily.

This project is part of a federal program aimed at the construction, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of 400 bridges during the current administration. By separating long-distance transit from local urban movements, the bridge aims to optimize the flow of goods through Veracruz, a critical Mexican gateway for trade with Europe and the eastern United States.
