Port of Vitória faces access bottlenecks limiting expansion

The Terminal Portuário de Vila Velha (TVV), the sole container terminal in Espírito Santo, is hampered by land and sea access constraints that could curb the growth of the Port of Vitória. Log‑In, the terminal operator, has begun a R$ 35 million expansion but warns that the bridge over the Aribiri River on the Capuaba Road remains a critical bottleneck. The two‑way bridge, administered by the federal government, prevents duplication of the final stretch linking Avenida Carlos Lindenberg and Darly Santos to the port complex.

At sea, the port seeks permission to admit wider vessels. Currently the channel accommodates ships up to 32 m in beam; a proposed increase to 38 m would enable larger cargo vessels and expand both cabotage and long‑haul services. Vports, the concessionaire managing the port, is investing in structural reinforcement, while new port authority president Pedro Benevides emphasizes that resolving these access issues is essential for coordinated private and public investment and for boosting the state’s logistics competitiveness.
