Port operations report crane collision in Spain and electrification in Mexico

In Spain, a crane collision occurred at the bulk terminal of Puerto de El Musel when a DC1 gantry crane struck a vessel's bridge. The Sindicato Asturianu La Clase Trabayadora (LCT) confirmed that no personnel were injured, but noted the gantry crane will remain out of service for an indefinite period. The union attributed the accident to negligence by European Bulk Handling Installation (EBHI), claiming the company had been warned of similar risks previously.

In Mexico, APM Terminals Yucatán has introduced its first 100% electric reach stacker at the Port of Progreso as part of a modernization and decarbonization plan. The equipment can lift up to 45 tons and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 125 tons annually. The company is also developing fast-charging infrastructure and upgrading electrical substations to support further electrification, including the planned acquisition of hybrid MHC cranes.
