Port Orange Police Department: Woman shot after firing in lobby

A woman approximately 70 to 71 years old was shot by officers after allegedly opening fire inside the Port Orange Police Department lobby in Florida. The incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. on September 3.

According to Police Chief Manuel Marino, the woman entered the department and brandished a handgun while interacting with civilian employees at the front records section. After remaining in the lobby for several minutes, she fired a single round in the direction of staff members. The bullet struck near the department’s property and evidence section.

Responding officers confronted the woman as she exited the building. An officer-involved shooting occurred during the confrontation, and the woman was subsequently transported to a hospital in stable condition. No officers or civilian employees were injured during the incident.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting. The police department stated there is currently no threat to the community and is providing mental health resources and debriefings to the affected staff.
