Port projects move forward in Sardinia's Porto Torres and Lombardy's Porto Mantovano

In Sardinia, the new Antemurale sea‑wall for the commercial port of Porto Torres entered its concrete phase as the third prefabricated concrete box arrived on site. Twenty units, manufactured by the firm Sales in Piombino, will be sequentially immersed to extend the breakwater to about 380 metres, protecting the harbour from storm surges and increasing its operational capacity. The work also involved relocating a World‑War II fort and the Madonnina statue under heritage‑preservation rules. Domenico Bagalà, president of the Sardinian Port Authority, said the immersion marks the transition from design challenge to tangible development.

Meanwhile, in Lombardy, the municipality of Porto Mantovano approved a €400 000 feasibility study to redesign the adjacent Piazza dei Marinai and Piazza della Resistenza as a single, green, pedestrian‑only urban space. Mayor Maria Paola Salvarani highlighted the plan’s aim to revitalize local markets, improve safety, and address climate‑change challenges by adding new landscaping, a tree‑lined boulevard and separate cycling‑pedestrian routes. The project is part of the regional “Rivivi il commercio” district initiative to boost neighbourhood commerce.
