Port Qasim announces new cargo terminal and apparel zone

Port Qasim Authority (PQA) is planning the construction of a new multipurpose cargo terminal to address rising trade volumes and congestion at existing marginal wharves. The project will utilize a build-operate-transfer (BOT) arrangement, seeking a private partner to design, finance, and operate the facility. The new terminal aims to modernize break bulk and general cargo operations through increased mechanization and the ability to accommodate larger vessels.

In a separate development at the port, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the establishment of a 400-acre apparel zone focused on high-value production. The textile company Artistic Milliners will invest over $18 million to establish a manufacturing unit within the zone using green technologies. The project is expected to create more than 138,000 jobs and generate approximately $2.2 billion in annual exports.
