Port Tobacco woman charged with arson in Charles County house fire

Jennifer Mary Owen, 59, of Port Tobacco, has been charged with first-degree arson and three counts of reckless endangerment following an investigation into a house fire in Charles County.

On July 27, firefighters responded to a blaze in the 8400 block of Wooddy Road around 2 a.m. Investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal determined that Owen allegedly set fire to a personal item inside the residence, causing damage to the flooring before the fire was extinguished.

Owen was taken to a local hospital for evaluation following the incident. On August 25, she was taken into custody at her residence and transported to the Charles County Detention Center. She has since been released after posting a $10,000 unsecured bond. The case is pending in Charles County Circuit Court.
