Port Washington Little League advances toward World Series

Port Washington’s 12-and-under Little League team has advanced within two wins of the Little League World Series following a 10-3 victory over Lincoln, Rhode Island, at the Metro Regional tournament in Bristol, Connecticut.

The team, which recently secured its first New York State Championship in the organization's 63-year history, has credited a self-imposed cell phone ban during game days for its recent success. Coaches introduced the policy by collecting devices before games to help players remain focused. "It makes me focused on the game and not thinking about other stuff," said third baseman Jack Gomez.

During the regional game, Port Washington took an early lead with runs from Carlo Cafferata and Max Dempsey. Jack Gomez contributed a two-run single in the third inning, while Brandon Kien drove in two runs in the final inning to secure the win. The game included a 75-minute lightning delay in the fifth inning.
