Portage closes US$600 million fintech venture fund

Toronto-based venture capital firm Portage has announced the final close of its fourth flagship fund, Portage Ventures IV, at approximately US$600 million. The fund is dedicated to supporting fintech companies across sectors including banking, wealth and asset management, insurance, and payments.

The fund attracted new strategic limited partners, specifically Broadridge and Fifth Third Bank. This latest closing brings Portage’s total assets under management to US$7 billion. The firm, which operates as an investment arm of the alternative asset management platform Sagard, currently maintains a portfolio of more than 140 companies across North America, Europe, and other global markets.

Portage leadership noted that the next phase of fintech will focus on embedding technology, particularly artificial intelligence, into the core operations of established financial institutions rather than attempting to replace them. CEO Adam Felesky highlighted that financial institutions are currently integrating AI into essential workflows at an unprecedented pace, creating demand for modern infrastructure and enterprise software.
