Luso Defense Group launches Industrial Portugal Gateway in Portalegre

The Luso Defense Group has introduced the Industrial Portugal Gateway (IPG) in Portalegre, a platform designed to attract international companies specializing in defense, security, and advanced industries to Portugal. The initiative aims to move beyond simple imports by encouraging foreign firms to establish local production, hire domestic workers, and utilize national suppliers.

Portalegre was selected as the initial territory due to its proximity to the Spanish border in Extremadura, available industrial space, and connection to the Polytechnic University of Portalegre. The project, supported by NERPOR, will provide coordinated assistance to companies throughout the installation process, including licensing, financing identification, and recruitment.

In other regional developments, the CCDR Algarve has officially supported Loulé’s candidacy to be the Portuguese Capital of Culture in 2028. Meanwhile, the PCP has criticized the management of the Évora 2027 European Capital of Culture project, citing concerns over political centralization and the exclusion of regional structures. Additionally, archaeological excavations are underway in the Arade River estuary as part of the MUSA project to study shipwreck remains dating from the Roman era to the 19th century.
