PortAventura water park closes pools due to human waste

Two pools at the Caribe Aquatic Park, located within the PortAventura theme park near Tarragona, Spain, were evacuated and closed following the discovery of human excrement in the water.

Management stated that the closure was a strict adherence to protocols established by the Catalan Public Health Agency, which mandates the immediate shutdown of swimming areas upon the detection of visible organic waste, such as feces or vomit.

This incident is linked to a growing trend in Spain known as the ‘brown challenge’ (or ‘el reto marrón’), a viral TikTok trend where individuals intentionally defecate in swimming pools to trigger immediate closures.
