PortCastelló and UJI launch smart port research and plastic studies

PortCastelló and Universitat Jaume I (UJI) have launched several initiatives aimed at advancing technological and environmental research within the maritime and logistics sectors.

UJI and PortCastelló have opened the fourth edition of the Smart Ports Chair Awards. This competition offers 6,000 euros in total prizes across three categories: Best Doctoral Thesis (3,000 euros), Best Master’s Final Project (2,000 euros), and Best Undergraduate Final Project (1,000 euros). The awards target research involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, blockchain, and automation to improve port efficiency, sustainability, and energy transition.

Additionally, the two institutions have begun a collaborative study to analyze how various plastic materials degrade under real-world port conditions. By observing materials exposed to humidity, solar radiation, and outdoor elements, the study aims to compare real-world degradation with controlled laboratory results. This research is intended to improve waste prevention, product selection, and lifecycle management within the logistics and industrial supply chain.
