Portia Boakye joins Mexico's UNAM Pumas Femenil

Ghanaian national women's football team captain Portia Boakye has signed with the Mexican top-flight club UNAM Pumas Femenil for the 2026/27 season. The 37-year-old defender joins the club from DR Congo side TP Mazembe.

Boakye's extensive career has included stints in Sweden, Turkey, Hungary, and Israel. Her move to Mexico marks her first experience in the CONCACAF region. She joins fellow Ghanaians Grace Asantewaa and Susan Ama Duah, who are already playing in the Mexican league.

Boakye arrives following the Black Queens' quarter-final exit at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). She is expected to bolster the UNAM Pumas defence as they compete in the Mexican league.
