Portland: 13-year-old killed, 2 teens injured in vehicle crash

A 13-year-old boy was killed and two other teenagers were seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Portland on Saturday night. The incident occurred near 512 Warren Avenue at approximately 8:45 p.m.

According to initial police investigations, a group of teenagers was walking on the north side of Warren Avenue toward Riverside Street when they “entered the roadway abruptly” and were struck by a car. The vehicle was driven by a 48-year-old Portland man traveling in the same direction.

The 13-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other boys, aged 14 and 15, were transported to Maine Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Other juveniles in the group were uninjured.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. He was also taken to Maine Medical Center for evaluation for minor injuries. This incident marks the third pedestrian fatality in Portland this year. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
