Portland City Council renames Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard

The Portland City Council has voted unanimously to rename Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard to Campesinos Boulevard. The 12–0 vote approved the ordinance during its second reading.

Introduced by Councilor Loretta Smith and co-sponsor Councilor Tiffany Koyama Lane, the name change is intended to honor the generations of farmworkers, or campesinos, whose labor has supported Oregon's agricultural economy and local families. The council noted that the decision aims to recognize the collective effort of the working people who have sustained communities and driven historic labor movements.
