Portland educational initiatives focus on AI in social sciences

Educational institutions in Portland, Oregon, are expanding their focus on the integration of artificial intelligence within the social sciences and humanities.

The American Political Science Association (APSA) has announced a specific track for its 2027 Teaching & Learning Conference regarding AI in political science education. The track invites proposals on using AI for course assignments, assessment, academic integrity, and accessibility, as well as the impact of AI on students' future professional careers.

Additionally, Portland State University (PSU) is offering an undergraduate certificate titled ‘AI Applications in Human Contexts’. Through the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, the program aims to provide non-technical students in fields such as anthropology, philosophy, and business with job-ready AI literacy. The curriculum emphasizes the ethical, social, and human considerations of technology, including topics like bias, equity, and social impact.
