Portland International Jetport loses power amid Maine storms

Severe thunderstorms sweeping through southern Maine have caused widespread power outages and significant damage. As of Thursday evening, more than 10,000 Central Maine Power customers in Cumberland County were without electricity, including nearly all 4,500 customers in Cape Elizabeth, over 2,600 in South Portland, and more than 1,600 in Scarborough.

The Portland International Jetport also lost power, resulting in major flight delays. Assistant Airport Director Zachary Sundquist reported that staff were performing tasks manually while awaiting restoration. Flight data indicated multiple delayed departures and arrivals.

Local authorities in South Portland are working to clear roads and address damage. The South Portland Police Department has requested that residents only call 911 for life-threatening emergencies due to a high volume of calls, while the Fire Department warned motorists to avoid downed wires.
