Portland launches Converge 45 Triennial and public plaza art projects

Portland is hosting two distinct art initiatives aimed at community engagement and neighborhood identity. The second edition of the Converge 45 Triennial, titled ‘Here, To You, Now,’ opens on August 27. Curated by Lumi Tan, the event features 28 artists and 17 new commissions spread across 16 different venues, including the Portland International Airport and various local colleges and galleries.

Simultaneously, a pilot program by the Portland Bureau of Transportation and the Office of Arts & Culture is bringing art to city plazas. Selected artists are installing works in locations such as Ankeny Alley, St. Johns Plaza, and Montgomery Plaza at PSU. These projects include rainbow-colored benches, transparent acrylic human silhouettes, and community mural opportunities designed to foster interaction within urban spaces.
