Portland mother sues school district over campus ban

Allison Roberts, a mother in Portland, Oregon, has filed a lawsuit against Portland Public Schools following a trespass order that barred her from school grounds. The order, issued after Roberts distributed pamphlets critical of LGBTQ+ curriculum and engaged in a heated exchange with another parent, prevented her from attending her son’s elementary school graduation and her daughter’s orientation.

Roberts alleges that the district’s actions constitute retaliation for exercising her First Amendment rights. She has requested a preliminary injunction from the U.S. District Court in Oregon. Her legal challenge seeks to restore her access to school property, revoke public statements made by the district regarding her character, and mandate that schools notify parents about LGBTQ+ curricula to allow for opt-out options.

Additionally, the injunction seeks to strike down a district policy that keeps students’ gender transitions confidential from their parents.
