Portland mother sues school district over gender curriculum dispute

Allison Roberts has filed a lawsuit against Portland Public Schools and Meriwether Lewis Elementary School, alleging retaliation following her opposition to the school’s gender-related curriculum. The Liberty Justice Center is representing Roberts in the legal action.

The dispute began when Roberts expressed concerns regarding the school’s decision to replace a traditional rainbow pride flag with an ‘Intersex-Inclusive Progress’ flag, which she viewed as a political symbol contradictory to her Christian faith. Additionally, Roberts objected to an ‘identity flower’ assignment that required students to discuss their gender identity with peers and teachers.

After distributing an open letter regarding these policies on a public sidewalk, Roberts was issued a one-year trespass order following a heated exchange with another parent. This order barred her from attending school events, including her child’s graduation ceremony. School officials stated the measure was a response to what they described as ‘harassment, intimidation, and threatening behavior’ targeting community members.
