Portland mother sues school district over gender curriculum protest
A Portland, Oregon, mother has filed a federal lawsuit against Portland Public Schools and Meriwether Lewis Elementary School, alleging retaliation for her opposition to the district’s gender identity curriculum.
Represented by the Liberty Justice Center, Allison Roberts claims the district banned her from school property for a year following her advocacy against policies regarding gender identity and social transitions. The lawsuit alleges that the school’s harassment policy is unconstitutionally vague and was used to punish her for expressing views that conflicted with the school’s curriculum, such as the use of an “Inclusive Intersex and Progressive” pride flag.
The legal action asserts that these actions violate Roberts’ First and Fourteenth Amendment rights. The Liberty Justice Center is seeking a preliminary injunction to stop the district from enforcing its harassment and nondisclosure policies against Roberts and to prevent further investigations into her character. Roberts reportedly missed her son’s graduation due to the trespass ban.
