Portland Police investigate fatal shooting and armed suspect pursuit

The Portland Police Bureau is investigating two separate violent incidents in the city.

In the Northwest District, police are reviewing multiple uses of force following a pursuit of an armed suspect. The incident began after a Portland Bureau of Transportation employee was approached by a man with a knife who slashed a city vehicle tire. During a follow-up investigation on August 12, officers attempted to arrest the suspect, who fled while armed with a large hunting knife. The pursuit involved the deployment of pepper spray, a K9 unit, and a police vehicle striking the suspect to stop his flight.

In a separate incident in the Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood, a shooting occurred in the early hours of August 15. One person was found deceased at a gas station, while two others were injured. One victim was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and another was taken by private vehicle with an unknown prognosis. The Portland Police Bureau Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting.
