Portland police investigate homicide of man following fire incident

The Portland Police Bureau has launched a homicide investigation following the death of 54-year-old Anthony ‘Tony’ Knights. On August 18, 2026, officers responded to a fire-related incident near Northwest Davis Street and Northwest Naito Parkway, where they found Knights with severe burns.

Initial investigations suggested the injuries were caused by an intentional act by an individual who fled the scene. Knights died from complications of thermal injuries, according to an autopsy. The Portland Police Bureau’s Homicide Unit and the Portland Fire Investigations Unit are currently investigating the case.
