Jeremy Sochan waived by Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers have waived forward Jeremy Sochan just before the start of the NBA regular season. Sochan, a 23-year-old former ninth overall draft pick, was playing on a one-year, non-guaranteed contract.

Despite a solid preseason performance where he averaged approximately 6 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting over 62 percent from the field, the Blazers opted to release him. The decision appears to be driven by a desire for roster flexibility, allowing the team to maintain an open spot for potential mid-season trades or roster adjustments.

Sochan previously spent three and a half seasons with the San Antonio Spurs before being traded to the New York Knicks during the 2025/26 season, where he earned an NBA championship. If he remains unclaimed on waivers, he will become an unrestricted free agent on Monday.
