Portneuf-sur-Mer road remains site of frequent accidents

A stretch of Route 138 in Portneuf-sur-Mer continues to be the site of frequent traffic accidents despite recent safety improvements. Most recently, on September 5, the musical group Bleu Jeans Bleu was involved in a collision while traveling from Sept-Îles to Les Escoumins. Two members of the group sustained contusions and a minor fracture, but have since resumed their tour.

The location, specifically the intersection near a campground entrance, has seen a series of collisions following a 2024 geometric correction by the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD). Previous incidents at this site include a fatal accident in the spring that claimed the life of police officer Anaïs Fortin-Cozzens. Drivers traveling from Forestville face challenges at the intersection, where oncoming traffic requires complete stops, potentially complicating braking on the descent.
