Porto Airport faces flight cancellations and diversions due to heavy rain

Heavy rainfall and intense showers at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto caused significant operational disruptions on Thursday morning. The weather left debris and water accumulation near the runways, forcing airport management to temporarily limit capacity to allow for cleaning and drainage.

According to ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, the weather-related issues resulted in eight flight cancellations and the diversion of seven other flights. While many flights experienced delays averaging approximately one hour, the airport remained operational throughout the incident. Cleaning efforts were completed by 12:00 PM, and the airport began recovering its full capacity by 12:30 PM.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued yellow weather warnings for 11 districts, citing risks of heavy rain, hail, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
