Porto Alegre-Guaíba catamaran fare increases to R$ 19.15
The catamaran ferry fare between Porto Alegre and Guaíba has increased to R$ 19.15 per trip, effective Tuesday. This represents a 13.29% adjustment from the previous rate of R$ 16.90.
The price hike was approved by the Superior Council of the State Agency for the Regulation of Public Services (Agergs) and is based on calculations by Metroplan. The adjustment aims to address the lack of recent updates, as the previous rate had been in place since January 2025.
The service, operated by Catsul, has faced significant challenges, including a 67-day service interruption caused by record flooding in 2024. These extreme weather events also contributed to a decline in monthly passenger demand, dropping from approximately 71,000 to just over 42,000. Metroplan is expected to further analyze requests for economic-financial rebalancing related to losses sustained during the pandemic and recent floods.
