Porto Alegre honors psychiatrist David Zimerman with public space naming

The Porto Alegre City Council held a solemn ceremony to officially name a public space, formerly known as Largo Quinhentos e Cinco, as Largo Dr. David Zimerman. Located in the Praia de Belas neighborhood, the naming honors the late psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who was a prominent figure in Brazilian mental health.

Proposed by Councilwoman Tanise Sabino and approved via Municipal Law No. 14.561, the tribute recognizes Zimerman’s extensive scientific and social legacy. He was a member of the Brazilian Association of Psychiatry (ABP) for nearly 40 years and was noted for training generations of medical professionals. The ceremony was attended by family members, medical authorities, and representatives from the Medical Association of Rio Grande do Sul (AMRIGS).
