Porto Alegre installs recycling machine at Public Market

A recycling machine has been installed at the Porto Alegre Public Market as part of a partnership between the Porto Alegre City Hall and CEEE – Grupo Equatorial. The device, known as a Retorna Machine, allows citizens to deposit recyclable packaging in exchange for digital coins.

The initiative is part of the municipal Cidade Bem Cuidada program and the E+Reciclagem project, which was developed through the National Electric Energy Agency’s Energy Efficiency Program. The collected waste is sent for proper disposal to strengthen the recycling chain and promote a circular economy. Negotiations are currently underway with the Municipal Urban Cleaning Department (DMLU) to install additional machines in other locations, including the Municipal Administrative Center.
