Porto Alegre municipal tax self‑registration reaches record R$ 37 million in first half of 2026
The Municipal Revenue Service of Porto Alegre's voluntary ISSQN compliance program amassed over R$ 37 million from taxpayers between January and June 2026, surpassing the annual target of R$ 36 million set in its management contract. The initiative, managed by the Fiscal Programming and Tax Illicit Combat Team (EPFI), encourages taxpayers to correct minor reporting errors before facing formal audits. June alone saw voluntary payments exceed R$ 11 million.
Superintendente Sandra Marlusa Severo Quadrado said the scheme aims to foster transparency and cooperation between the tax authority and taxpayers, reducing litigation and preserving municipal finances. By directing enforcement resources toward more serious cases, the city has improved fiscal sustainability while maintaining a collaborative relationship with the public.
