Southern Brazil social and cultural initiatives
Various social and cultural initiatives are underway in southern Brazil. In Porto Alegre, the 'Operação Inverno 2026' recorded 44,323 overnight stays for the homeless population between May and August, providing food, hygiene, and technical assistance.
Cultural activities are also prominent in Porto Alegre through the Acampamento Farroupilha. The event includes educational programs for municipal students and the 6th edition of 'Lanceirinhos Negros,' an anti-racist project by the Odomode Afro-South Cultural Institute that teaches children about the history of Black soldiers in the Farroupilha Revolution.
In Curitiba, social welfare efforts include the 'Campanha do Agasalho,' which has collected 300,000 items such as clothing and blankets for vulnerable families. Additionally, the 'Semana da Economia' at Armazéns da Família is offering reduced prices on essential food items like rice and beans to assist household budgets.
