Porto Alegre water maintenance to affect 20 neighborhoods
The Municipal Department of Water and Sewage (Dmae) will perform preventive maintenance at the Belém Novo Water Treatment Plant (ETA) in Porto Alegre this Thursday (15). The work, which begins at 8:00 AM, focuses on the electrical power entry system. Simultaneously, maintenance will be conducted on a lifting device at the Xavantes Treated Water Pumping Station (Ebat) used for moving motors, pumps, and valves.
The maintenance may cause low water pressure or water shortages in 20 neighborhoods, including Aberta dos Morros, Agronomia, Belém Novo, Belém Velho, Boa Vista do Sul, Campo Novo, Cascata, Chapéu do Sol, Espírito Santo, Extrema, Hípica, Ipanema, Lageado, Lami, Lomba do Pinheiro, Pitinga, Ponta Grossa, Restinga, São Caetano, and Vila Nova.
Services are expected to conclude by 2:00 PM, with water supply normalizing gradually until the early hours of Friday (16). Residents in higher or more distant areas may experience slower restoration. Dmae noted that water may temporarily change color or taste due to microparticles being moved within the pipes, but this does not pose a health risk.
