Porto Alegre water supply may be interrupted in 21 neighborhoods

Water supply in 21 neighborhoods of Porto Alegre may face total interruption or low pressure on Friday morning due to maintenance at the Moinhos de Vento Water Treatment Plant (ETA). The shutdown is required for CEEE Equatorial to complete a dual power supply project designed to increase energy security for the facility.

The affected areas include Auxiliadora, Azenha, Bela Vista, Bom Fim, Centro Histórico, Cidade Baixa, Farroupilha, Floresta, Independência, Jardim Botânico, Menino Deus, Moinhos de Vento, Mont’Serrat, Partenon, Petrópolis, Praia de Belas, Rio Branco, Santa Cecília, Santana, São João, and Três Figueiras. The Municipal Department of Water and Sewage (Dmae) stated that service will normalize gradually, though areas at higher elevations or further from the station may experience longer delays.

The R$ 18 million project involves over 44 kilometers of infrastructure and 68 remote-controlled reclosers. This system aims to provide automatic power switching between two distinct sources to prevent water shortages, sewage overflows, and flooding. Similar planned interventions are scheduled for the Menino Deus and São João stations on September 9 and 15, respectively.
