Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia Launch Regular River Ferry Service
The Metropolitan Transport Authority of Porto (TMP) reinstated two regular river ferry routes linking the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia on Wednesday, 22 July. The services run between Cais do Ouro and Afurada, and between Ribeira and Cais de Gaia, with departures every 30 minutes from 07:30 on weekdays and extended hours on weekends.
Tickets can be bought on board for €3 for a single trip or €5 for a same‑day return. The rides are free for Porto residents holding a municipal Card Porto and for Gaia residents with a Gaia Amiga card. All trips are fully integrated into the Andante ticketing system. A ceremony attended by the mayors of Porto and Gaia marked the reopening, and TMP president Nuno Neves de Sousa described the service as a step toward a more integrated, accessible, and sustainable public‑transport network.
