Spain named Guest of Honor for 2026 São Paulo Book Biennial
The 28th São Paulo International Book Biennial, scheduled for September 4–13, 2026, at Distrito Anhembi, is set to be a record-breaking edition. The event expects over 700,000 to 800,000 visitors and will feature 269 exhibitors and approximately 800 national and international authors.
Spain will serve as the Guest of Honor, featuring a 500 m² pavilion curated by writer Marta Sanz. The Spanish delegation includes over 50 authors and a program of more than 30 activities covering literature, music, photography, and architecture under the theme “Confluences.” The Spanish Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, is expected to attend the pavilion opening.
Additionally, the Japan Foundation will return to the Biennial after an eight-year hiatus, showcasing Japanese literature, manga, and language learning materials. In Rio de Janeiro, the Bienal do Livro is launching the “Estação Bienal” project to bring international authors, such as Alice Oseman, closer to Brazilian readers. Other regional literary events, including the Foz do Iguaçu International Book Fair, are also scheduled for September.
