Porto Cesareo to host Santa Cesarea Vergine festival in August 2026
Porto Cesareo will host the annual festival in honor of Santa Cesarea Vergine from August 19 to 22, 2026. The event, organized by the local municipality, the Parish of Beata Vergine Maria del Perpetuo Soccorso, and the Festa Noi per Santa Cesarea Committee, combines religious traditions with cultural and musical activities.
The central religious event will take place on Wednesday, August 19, featuring a traditional procession both on land and at sea. The procession will begin at the Parish of the Perpetuo Soccorso, moving through the city streets to Piazza Nazario Sauro, where the statue of the Saint will be boarded for a sea procession. A solemn Mass will be presided over by parish priest Don Antonio Bottazzo, followed by a greeting from Mayor Francesco Schito and the traditional launch of commemorative hot air balloons.
The four-day program includes various cultural and musical performances. Highlights include the Salento Folk Festival, the Gran Galà della Lirica, and several concerts featuring local bands and orchestras. The festivities will conclude on August 22 with a piano concert, live shows, and a traditional fireworks display at midnight. A photographic exhibition dedicated to the festival will also be available for visitors at the Chiesetta B. V. M. del Perpetuo Soccorso.
