Porto City Council implements private security pilot in Bairro do Cerco

The Porto City Council has contracted private security services to conduct nighttime surveillance in the Bairro do Cerco neighborhood. The initiative, managed through the municipal housing company Domus Social, is a pilot project designed to enhance safety and tranquility for residents.

The contract, valued at 52,865.71 euros, was awarded to Proteção Total -- Segurança Privada -- S.A. Security patrols will operate between 20:00 and 08:00, including weekends and holidays, covering all entrances to the neighborhood. Bairro do Cerco was selected due to its high density of municipal residents.

The project will begin in November and includes an impact assessment conducted in collaboration with the University of Porto's School of Criminology, the Campanhã Parish Council, and the Public Security Police (PSP).
