Porto cultural center M-ODU set for progressive opening in 2027

The Porto City Council has announced that the Matadouro — Centro Cultural do Porto, currently undergoing conversion, is expected to undergo a “progressive opening” throughout 2027. While the project is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2026, the following year will be dedicated to the “fit out” and preparation of various spaces.

Renamed M-ODU (Matadouro Outro Destino Urbano), the complex is located in Campanhã and has a capacity for over 2,300 people. The €40 million investment covers a 20,000 square meter area. The architectural design is a collaboration between the Japanese studio Kengo Kuma & Associates and the Portuguese firm OODA.

The facility will feature nine office buildings, 8,000 square meters of galleries and public equipment, a 600 square meter restaurant area, a cafeteria, a kiosk, and a wellness area with studios. Emerge, the urban development company managing the space, previously indicated that over 700 workers from the Mota-Engil group would occupy the office spaces by the third quarter of 2026.
