Porto de Rio Grande LNG terminal project could reach R$ 1 billion in investment
The government of Rio Grande do Sul and Edge, a subsidiary of Compass, have signed a memorandum of understanding to study the implementation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the Port of Rio Grande. The project is estimated to generate up to R$ 1 billion in investments.
The terminal is expected to operate in synergy with the regasification terminal in Santos, São Paulo, establishing a new supply route for the state. Once operational, which is projected for 2028, the terminal could increase the natural gas supply in Rio Grande do Sul by at least 30%. In its initial stage, the project aims to expand availability by between 500,000 m³/day and 700,000 m³/day, with a modular design capable of expanding processing capacity to up to 3 million m³/day.
The agreement initiates detailed studies regarding infrastructure, logistics, supply, demand, and the technical, regulatory, and economic aspects required to assess the project's viability.
