Porto di Riposto: first basin reopened for fishing fleet

The first basin of the Porto di Riposto has been officially handed over to the municipality of Riposto following extensive reclamation work and the removal of long-seized piers and materials. This follows a complex judicial process that had left the area unused for several years.

The reopening of the basin is particularly critical due to the damage caused by cyclone Harry, which severely impacted the commercial port and created an urgent need for alternative docking spaces for the local fishing fleet. While approximately 100 meters of quay have been recovered on the outer pier, current conditions do not yet allow for the immediate docking of all vessels.

Mayor Davide Vasta stated that the result is the product of a two-year effort involving the Sicilian Region and the Coast Guard. The municipality, along with regional departments for territory, environment, and fisheries, must now complete necessary administrative steps to allow fishing boats to use the basin temporarily.
