Porto hosts exhibitions featuring historic archives and sculpture-inspired fitness tools
The city of Porto is hosting two distinct cultural exhibitions that explore the intersection of history, art, and physical interaction.
The Museu do Porto has opened “Porto Regresso ao Futuro” at the Antiga Casa da Câmara. For the first time in 25 years, the exhibition presents a vast collection of documents, photographs, films, and objects from the Porto 2001 – European Capital of Culture archives. Curated by Rita Roque, the exhibition aims to reflect on the city's transformation through a collection that includes documentaries, musical scores, and architectural models.
Simultaneously, the Galeria Municipal do Porto is hosting “Cultura do Corpo: Edição Porto” by artist Augustas Serapinas. This exhibition features over 60 replicas of sculptures from the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis that have been transformed into weights and dumbbells for bodybuilding. The installation allows visitors to engage in physical training and live academic drawing sessions. The gallery also features a sound installation by Lydia Ourahmane designed for visually impaired singers, utilizing Braille scores engraved on the walls.
