Porto Metro expansion approved with 421 million euro investment
The Portuguese government has approved a major expansion of the Porto Metro network, with a total investment of up to 421 million euros to develop lines toward Gondomar and Trofa. The projects are scheduled to run from 2027 through 2031.
The expansion toward Trofa involves a 184 million euro investment, which includes 95 million euros from the Sustainable 2030 program. This project will utilize a combination of metro and metrobus (BRT) systems, featuring nine stations including a shared hub at Muro. The funding covers land acquisition, technical systems, and infrastructure.
In Gondomar, the government has authorized up to 237 million euros to create a 7-kilometer line connecting Estádio do Dragão to Souto. This new line is expected to include nine stations and reduce travel time to approximately 20 minutes, providing direct metro access to the municipality center.
