Porto Pride returns for three-day celebration in Portugal

Porto Pride, Northern Portugal’s longest-running LGBTQIA+ celebration, is scheduled to take place from September 11 to 13. The event marks a significant cultural milestone as the first LGBTQIA+ festival in Portugal to span three consecutive days on the city's cultural calendar.

Since a major restructuring in 2019 under the motto ‘Dar cor ao Porto’ (Bringing color to Porto), the festival has transitioned from modest indoor gatherings to large-scale public celebrations. By removing ticket fees and moving festivities to public squares, the event has seen significant growth, previously drawing over 10,000 attendees to Praça de D. João I.

The festival is centered in the Cordoaria neighborhood at Largo Amor de Perdição. The location holds historical significance, named after a 19th-century tragic romance novel written by Camilo Castelo Branco. Unlike many corporate-sponsored global Pride events, Porto Pride focuses on community visibility, featuring local drag icons, trans activists, and national pop stars on its main stage.
