Porto residents seek mediation over high-speed rail demolitions
Residents of the Campanhã district in Porto are calling for mediation from the Porto City Council regarding planned demolitions for the construction of a high-speed rail line to Lisbon. The project is expected to affect 44 homes, seven economic activities, and three other buildings.
Local collectives, including the Vida Justa movement and the A Soalheira association, have sent an open letter to Mayor Pedro Duarte. They are requesting a meeting to ensure citizens are not left to negotiate individually with Infraestruturas de Portugal or the project concessionaires. The residents argue that the City Council, which is responsible for the Campanhã Urbanization Plan, must take responsibility for the impact on its constituents.
