Porto Santo Airport hosts stranded passengers after Madeira flight disruptions

Dozens of passengers were forced to spend the night at Porto Santo Airport following significant flight disruptions at Madeira Airport. Due to the inability of aircraft to land in Madeira, several flights were diverted to alternative locations, including Porto Santo.

Because hotels on Madeira were fully booked and unable to accommodate the displaced travelers, many passengers remained in the terminal overnight, with some using mattresses provided by ANA. Among those stranded were numerous passengers from easyJet flights.

Out of 19 flights originally destined for Santa Cruz that were diverted, eight were sent to Porto Santo. Other diverted flights were directed to Lisbon, Gran Canaria, Tenerife South, and Porto. The disruptions affected flights originating from various international locations, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Geneva.
